The Blade Itself (The First Law: Book One) Review

This is definately one of the best books I've ever read. I hesitate to say this because it might ruin the enjoyment of finding out how good this book actually is, but you MUST read it, so it must be said.

I love knowing the characters I read about and I can't wait to see what happens to these ones in the next book. I love fantasy that doesn't revolve around dragons elves and dwarves, something different. I love the imagination of books directed at younger readers because they're more creative. This one is definately NOT for younger readers. The characters are awesomely violent.

One of the best - Swords-and-Sorcery -
After 9 different Fantasy series and two solid years of reading "The First Law Trilogy" is the second best series on my list and has produced still my favorite character. The book is a great read, full of everything epic fantasy should have and then some. All books are equally great and then Joe is going to treat us with "The Heroes" in due time.

good plot and characters,, but WORDY and SLOW - chuckd -
I liked the story line, and the characters, but found the writing style very, verbose. This book really needed to be edited. Lots of long descriptions that added nothing to the story for me. Even the fight scenes left the heros with time for introspection, during the fighting! I may read the sequel in the hope that it moves faster. I found myself skimming whole paragraphs to get some movement into the story. Much more human interest and self doubt than action.
